Bachelor and Master’s studies

Experimental research into the disposal of radioactive waste (220XEUR/ 220ERNW) addresses the issue of the long-term safe isolation of radioactive waste. Students are acquainted with the principles of radioactive waste disposal, the properties of materials for the construction of the engineered barriers of the future Czech DGR, physical modelling and the related experiments underway in the Josef Underground Laboratory. This subject is also taught in English.

Project 2/D requires students to solve practical problems focusing on experimental geotechnics in both the faculty’s laboratories in Prague and the in-situ Josef Underground Laboratory. Various related topics are often addressed in the form of Bachelor theses. The specific topic is selected via agreement between students and university staff.

Bachelor Thesis (220BAP) offers Structural and Transportation Engineering and Environmental Engineering students the chance to compile practically oriented bachelor theses focusing on issues addressed in Projects 2/D.

The geotechnical laboratory (220YLPG) enables geotechnical in-situ and laboratory experimentation for determining rock and soil parameters. Students mainly perform practical tests, for example for the classification of soils and the measurement of the characteristics that are crucial in the design of geotechnical structures.

Experimental Analysis of Constructions (132EADK)   – Geotechnical Part comprises practical classes held under real geological conditions in the Josef URL. It includes training in the monitoring of underground structures, the application and verification of the performance of clay sealing materials and the analysis of selected parameters of the rock environment.

Diploma seminars and theses, as with the bachelor and master’s programmes, provide the opportunity for students to compile their experimentally-based final theses. Students also have the opportunity to participate in projects included in the student grant competition scheme.
